Why Biotechnology? | Why Our Program?
- Biotech is a diverse field expected to grow in the next decade. Biotech employment in Rhode Island grew by almost 90% from 2012 to 2022.
- Our multidisciplinary Bachelor of Science major encompasses courses in chemistry, computer science, math, physics and a solid foundation in biology.
- We also provide experiential learning opportunities in our labs at RIC and internships with local biotech companies.
- Topics covered in the BS in biotechnology curriculum include: biochemistry, computer science, cell and molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, analytical chemistry, data science and nanotechnology.
Rhode Island College is the best value in higher education. In-state students have the opportunity to attend two years tuition-free under the Hope Scholarship, while our Northeast Neighbors are offered a 40 percent discount.

As a leading educator of Rhode Island’s workforce, RIC has been tapped by the State of Rhode Island to assist in producing more technologically skilled graduates. Along with RIC’s new Institute for Cybersecurity and Emerging Technologies, the college is launching a new B.S. degree in biotechnology.
